Tel Aviv – November 26, 2019

Rising German star Nils Politt, who was the runner-up in last year’s Paris-Roubaix, the toughest single-day race in the world, will be riding for Israel Cycling Academy in 2020.

The 25-year-old spring classic specialist comes from Team Katusha Alpecin and will focus on races like the Paris-Roubaix, and the Tour of Flanders.

“READY TO LEARN AND PERFORM”

Politt is excited to join Israel Cycling Academy: “Obviously, the circumstances were difficult for all Katusha riders, but I am happy that I now have a clear situation. I am very happy that I am part of Israel Cycling Academy, and I am looking forward to being involved in this project.”

Israel Cycling Academy is offering Politt a leading role in the spring classics, including the chance to learn from experienced teammates.

Politt: “In this team, I can learn a lot, especially about racing classics. Last year in Katusha, we missed a rider with experience. Now with André Greipel and all the other strong riders in the team, I think we can get outstanding results in the spring classics.”

“I WANT MORE WITH ICA”

2019 was Politt’s best season so far, including a silver medal in the famous classic Paris-Roubaix and fifth place in the Tour of Flanders.
“Last year was a great season indeed, but I am looking for more with Israel Cycling Academy,” Politt says. “I am motivated for next season.”

“POLITT IS A GREAT ASSET”

Pro Manager Kjell Carlström is looking forward to work together with Politt.

He says: “Nils has shown in the last few years that he is close to winning big races. We believe that he will be a great asset. We will build our first part of the classics campaign around him.”

“BEST CLASSICS RIDER OF GERMANY”

According to his ICA-teammate Greipel, Politt is the best classics rider in Germany. “Nils has a powerful engine, and his time trial qualities are remarkable as well.”
Therefore Greipel is enthusiastic about his fellow countryman joining his team. “He will make a great contribution to Israel Cycling Academy.”

Greipel hopes he can support Politt during the spring classics. “I hope he is going to be the best classics rider of the pro-peloton,” Greipel says about the Academy’s newest addition.

Politt is ready to compete on WorldTour-level with ICA and Greipel: “André is not only a good friend of mine, but he is also a role model for me. I think everyone within the Academy can learn from him.”

“WE HAVE A STRONG TEAM”

The German national under-23 champion of 2015 continues:
“I also think that we have a strong team for all the other races too. During the whole season, Israel Cycling Academy can fight for the victory.”

Previously, Israel Cycling Academy has welcomed six other Katusha Alpecin riders. Alex Dowsett, Reto Hollenstein, Rick Zabel, Mads Wurtz Schmidt, Dani Navarro, and Belgian Jenthe Biermans will race for ICA in 2020.
