Sep Vanmarcke held on to his second place in the general classification of Settimana Ciclistica Italiana, while also taking another podium spot in the final stage.
The race got lit up on the second climb of the day, and resulted in a selected group of riders going for the finish line in a very warm Cagliari. Vanmarcke, Ben Hermans (both finishing in the top 10 of the GC) were there, as well as Guy Niv.
Niv grew more and more into the stage race on Sardinia, becoming increasingly important throughout the week. Vanmarcke praised the Israeli after the stage for his efforts in the first group: “He was really strong today.”
Vanmarcke sprinted for the victory, against sprinters like Pascal Ackermann. The strong Belgian all-rounder managed to take his third bronze medal this week. “I sprinted as hard as I could, and this was the maximum I could achieve”, said Vanmarcke.
“With the team, we round off a good week of racing in Sardinia. The great team atmosphere resulted in good results in the races.”
