The Tour du Rwanda is turning out to be a game of seconds. Three riders, including James Piccoli, are within five seconds of each other with one stage to go.
Piccoli is well on his way to making it to the final podium in the Tour du Rwanda. A fifth place in the punchy individual time trial brought him two seconds closer to the overall victory.
The Canadian climber did lose six seconds on the stage winner, who is now also five seconds behind the GC-leader; meaning, every second counts in the last stage of the Tour du Rwanda tomorrow. Given the profile of this unpredictable race, it could still be anyone’s.
The eighth day of racing is relatively short, at 75 kilometers. However, there is plenty of climbing to be done, including three passages of the Wall of Kigali, and other cobbled climbs.
Compared to last year, the organisation added a super-steep final stretch to the end of the race, to give the climbers one last chance to change the GC.
