Israel Cycling Academy will be racing next season with one of the most decorated sprinters of the era: German André Greipel.

With 157 pro victories under his belt, including 22 Grand tour wins, Greipel will be expected to bring his vast experience and sprinting engine to the team set to start its first WT season (upon UCI approval).

The 37 years old rider who earned his nickname the “Gorilla” with his unprecedented ability as a power sprinter, is sufficiently motivated to show that his fuel is far from empty: “I am looking forward to the challenge to perform on my highest level again together with team ICA, a project for the future with lots of motivated and talented riders. I followed the team and saw its fast evolution in the last few years, and I wanted to be part of that, especially with the chance to go back and race in the World Tour”.

Greipel has signed a contract with ICA for the 2020 season.

ICA Pro manager Kjell Carlstrom welcomed the opportunity to add Greipel to his team’s Arsenal for such a challenging 2020 season for his team:

“André Greipel has such a vast Palmares from his years in the sport up to date that we are honored to have him joining the team,” said Carlstrom. “We are convinced that he can continue to win with us in 2020, but most importantly, the vast experience he brings to the team in both classics and sprinters races is going to be hugely appreciated both for the other riders as well as management. ”

Greipel, born in Rostock and started his magnificent career 18 years ago, has endured a tough season in 2019 while riding with team Arkea Samsic, but he made it clear that he intends to leave it behind him: “I am not somebody who is looking back. I just want to look to the future and start from there, and I know my abilities and will try my best to get back to that.”
