“I’ll improve,” Davide Cimolai said after finishing seventh two days ago. In today’s stage, he kept his word.

After masterful teamwork on the final uphill stretch, the Italian sprinter positioned himself upfront towards the final turn. He tried, but just missed that final push and couldn’t get close enough to take the victory.

Alex Dowsett, Alex Cataford, Dani Navarro and Rick Zabel were his lead-out guys today, and all agreed: It was a challenging and interesting final. Cataford elaborated, “We were on time, maybe even a bit early, to bring Cimo out there, but it was a super finish by him today.”

Cimo agreed with Cataford. “With 300 meters to go, I was, indeed, quite close to the front. I felt good the whole day and I am happy with both the team’s and my own performance.”

Cimolai seems to be quite consistent in finishing in the top-10 this season. He has another chance to prove himself tomorrow on the #Giro stage 7, which is relatively short and the flattest so far.
