Coming up later today in LA VUELTA: THE MOMENT

Today , around 4 pm CET, a bunch of riders will hit the foothill of the Covatilla, heading to the top of the ski resort, some 19 kilometers of climbing away. If everything goes as planned, we will see our Irishman Dan Martin in his ISN blue and white, determined, focused, and driven for the last hour of all-out effort. His mind will be clear.
He has already achieved so much in this Vuelta – maybe the most impressive two and a half weeks of his illustrious career. The 4th place in GC is already a remarkable achievement both for him and his team, Israel Start-Up Nation. He has never finished a Grand Tour in a better position than the 6th.
But here is the thing about Dan and the team. It’s not in the nature of top athletes to not strive for more. And tomorrow on the Covatilla, where he WON 9 years ago, it will be the chance. The last chance to shake things up. With 55 seconds between him and 3rd place Hugh Carthy, it’s a challenging mission – but not impossible.
This is what Dan Martin told us last night: “Tomorrow will be really aggressive and we’ll go full gas all day, but I’m feeling good. We will see how the day unfolds. “I just hope that bad luck doesn’t decide anything, and we can see a good fight for the GC. I won on the Covatilla in 2011, so it’s nice to go back again. We will continue how we have ridden so far in the race and maybe even try and find a weakness in our competitors, but it’s a tricky stage that demands full focus and concentration. I am ready.”
